How to make Vietnamese coffee

Classic, clean, and smart. The PHIN is our namesake for a reason. Every day, 95 million Vietnamese brew their coffee and enter their famous grind. By brewing with the Phin filter, you get to capture the essence of every single drip down the cup. It’s an art. Phin coffee or “cà phê phin” can be spotted in any street corners in Vietnam. Are you ready to catch the vibe?

The Phin Filter

When the French bought the French press to Vietnam in the 1880s, they introduced the Vietnamese to a new coffee brewing method. However, most of the people could not afford the French press. So, they made their own – creation of the Phin filter. It was a luxury to have a Phin filter at home. Most of the time back then, the Phin was an item of heirloom.

Our Phin filter kit includes the filter chamber, the base, the lily pad, and the lid. That's everything you need to make a delicious cup of traditional Vietnamese coffee. Our Phin filter fits with most cups and mugs. We recommend using a glass mug or see-through cup so you can watch the coffee drip and enjoy the experience of Vietnamese coffee brewing.

Eco-Friendly

Made from stainless-steel, the Phin will outlast your current significant other (we tease). We believe in doing things right, the first time. By using the Phin and ditching wasteful plastics and paper, you help offset your carbon footprint, plant a tree, and promote a resourceful and clean lifestyle.

How to clean the Phin filter

1. Remove the lily pad within the chamber after usage.
2. Gently scrub out the coffee ground (coffee ground can be used to fertilize your garden or neutralize odors).
3. Clean the filter with the soft side of the sponge with soap (don’t use the hard side or any type of scouring pads since they’ll scratch the filter’s surface).
4. Hand dry or air dry.
OR you can just throw it in the dishwasher like any other kitchen appliances. With proper care, our PHIN filter can be your morning buddy for generations!
